Dashmool Kashaya
Dashmool Kashaya (AH) दशमूल कषाय
श्वास, कास, पार्श्वशूल, हृग्रह, ज्वर, दौर्बल्य
Dashmool Kashaya is a powerful herbal decoction mentioned in the Ashtanga Hridayam (AH), one of the foundational Ayurvedic texts. “Dashmool” translates to “ten roots,” which are the key ingredients in this formulation. This kashaya is widely used in treating Vata-related disorders such as joint pain, backache, muscle stiffness, neurological imbalances, and inflammatory conditions.
The ten roots include five from trees (Brihat Panchamoola) and five from shrubs (Laghu Panchamoola), which together create a balanced combination that pacifies Vata and Kapha doshas, reduces inflammation, and restores the natural function of the nervous, musculoskeletal, and reproductive systems.
Key Ingredients (Dashmoola – Ten Roots):
Brihat Panchamoola (Major Roots):
-
Bilva (Aegle marmelos)
-
Agnimantha (Clerodendrum phlomidis)
-
Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicum)
-
Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens)
-
Gambhari (Gmelina arborea)
Laghu Panchamoola (Minor Roots):
6. Shalaparni (Desmodium gangeticum)
7. Prishnaparni (Uraria picta)
8. Brihati (Solanum indicum)
9. Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum)
10. Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris)
These herbs work synergistically to calm Vata, improve mobility, ease pain, and detoxify the body.
